Tuesday Tutorial - Starlights and Kraft Card by Margaret Brackenbury

Good morning, Kirsten here with a Tuesday Tutorial from one of our Design Team members; Margaret Brackenbury. It's also Margaret's very first post on the Imagination Crafts' blog & we're delighted to have her. Over to you, Margaret.....................

Hello everyone, I'm Margaret and I'm thrilled to be an Imagination Crafts' Design Team member. I love using their products and probably like you, I am in love with Starlights and Sparkle Medium! Here is my first project; a card made with some of the gorgeous NEW Starlights colours - they're all available on the Imagination Crafts' website now - and kraft card............

Starlights and kraft card!!! Yes, they do mix for a really different look!! Here's my step by step...........

Step 1:

I chose the Flower and Bug stencil and Misty Green, Pink Sorbet and Canary Yellow Starlights - LOVE the Canary Yellow, it's so vibrant!!! I began by applying the green for the leaves, then on to Pink Sorbet for the outer part of the flower petals and Canary Yellow for the centres.

Starlights dry very quickly, so once that was done, I went back to first colour and continued to blend, swapping colours until I was happy. I did this twice, one for the main card and one to cut out the leaves and flowers.................

Step 2:

Using the same colours I created a background layer................

Step 3:

I cut out the flowers and leaves from the second piece of card.................

Step 4:

I edged the main card and the background layer with Inca Gold Alchemy Wax, layered up the cut out flowers and leaves, offsetting the leaves slightly. I mounted the layers on to a 7x7 card blank, added Gold Gilt Detail Sparkle to the edges & centres of the flowers and the card was finished.................

Thank you very much for reading my first blog post for Imagination Crafts, I hope you like my card.

Margaret.

Creating with the NEW Sparkle Medium Colours, part three

Hello everyone, Kirsten here with a scheduled post. I hope you've had a wonderful break & if you're feeling ready for a little crafting time, maybe my projects today will inspire you. They're the last of my Christmas projects, but they can be easily adapted for other occasions. Again, I'm using some of the gorgeous, new Sparkle Medium colours, with Starlights & the Mixed Media Ink Sprays........

The background is Yellow, Red & Light Green ink sprays with Red Starlights applied through the Poinsettia Large stencil on top.

I applied Merlot Red Sparkle Medium three times through the Medium/Small Poinsettia stencil, (available from Hochanda at the moment), on to gold mirri card & cut out each one when the SM was dry. I applied Vine Leaf SM through the leaves of the same stencil onto card painted with Green Starlights & cut those out too. The greeting was cut from a die in my stash..............

The tag was cut from another piece of the ink sprayed card above. I dry embossed it & brayered Diamond SM on top. I applied more Diamond SM through the Christmas Wishes Bauble stencil onto a scrap of the card left over from last Wednesday's post & used Silver Dollar SM for the bauble hanger.............

I had a scrap of card on my desk that I'd brayered Diamond SM mixed with Cracked Ice on to, so I used that on the top & bottom of the tag & hung the bauble from gold thread under the top piece................

Creating with the NEW Sparkle Medium Colours, part two

Good morning, Kirsten here, happy Christmas Eve! If you will be celebrating tomorrow, I hope you're feeling very relaxed today, because everything is done; presents wrapped, food bought. etc., etc. :-) My post today carries on from Wednesday's, where I detailed the backgrounds I made to showcase the new Sparkle Medium colours

Today's projects are a tag & one of our MDF frames. I made it similar to the card in Wednesday's post so that I could use them as a set; a card with a gift. The poinsettia are from the Medium/Small Poinsettia stencil that was featured in our recent Hochanda shows. The word 'joy' is die cut from an alphabet die cutting set in my stash. I cut each letter six times & glued them together to create dimension. I edged the letters with blue ink & applied Diamond Sparkle Medium over that with my finger............

To complete the gift set of frame & card I made a tag. I used the Hazelnut Sparkle Medium poinsettia this time, backing it with another I'd made by stencilling Topaz Starlights through the small poinsettia onto card I'd painted with Antique Gold Starlights. The greeting is cut from a die in my stash & I added a border of Pure Gold Just Pearls...........

That's it from me for today. I have two more Christmas projects to show you next week. In the meantime, I wish you all a very Happy Christmas & Happy Holidays. However you spend the next few days, I hope you have a wonderful time. Thank you for visiting the Imagination Crafts' blog.

Creating with the NEW Sparkle Medium Colours, part one

Hello, Kirsten here. I hope you're well. I found some time to try out our new Sparkle Medium colours & I thought I would share my projects with you in a few blog posts. Firstly, the colours really are as gorgeous as they seem & the sparkle is incredible.  I first put all eight new colours through the new large & medium/small poinsettia stencils, from the set recently featured in our Hochanda shows, on to card I'd painted with Mediterranean Sky Starlights & I just loved them all, could not pick a favourite.

I used Blue Lagoon, Silver Dollar & Crushed Bilberry SM on my first project...........

I wanted quick & easy backgrounds so masterboards were the way to go. I began by spraying Light Blue & Light Purple Mixed Media Spray Inks on to a piece of 12x12 white card, spritzing with water, adding more inks, then splatters of Silver Starlights loosened with water & more water. At this stage you could leave the card to dry by itself, dry it with a heat tool, or take another piece of white card, lay it on top of the first & create a second masterboard, which is what I did..............

(Apologies for the artificial light in these next few photos, it was a horrible grey day when I did these....)

Once the cards were dry - I left them for about 30 minutes near a warm radiator - I started to add chalk paint through stencils. First, Cornflower through one of our new Mixed Media Art stencils; MA27..............

Next, Baltic Blue through the large poinsettia stencil & the small poinsettia from the Medium/Small Poinsettia stencil..................

Silver Starlights through the MM Art stencil MU17 & splatters of Pearl Starlights...........

I used the same stencils on the second piece of card, but reversed the order of the chalk paint................

(Photo taken the next day, slightly better light this time...........)

With masterboards, you can keep going & add more layers of stencilling, stamping etc., I decided these were finished & it was time to start using them.

I removed the outside petals of the large poinsettias, shaped all three layers with a ball-ended embossing tool & used wet glue to stick the layers together. I painted pieces of Art-Cutz with
white chalk paint, then applied Diamond Sparkle Medium with my fingers..................

I cut a tag & stamped the word 'joy', (from my stash), on to it in blue ink & distressed the edges of the tag slightly. for the matting layers I painted the borders of white card with Silver Gold & Sax Blue Starlights - perfect matches for the Blue Lagoon & Silver Dollar Sparkle Medium...........

That's it for now, I'll be back with another project soon. Thank you for visiting the Imagination Crafts blog.
